The revelations of the followers
of St. Jude Thaddeus
A trip to the depths of Mexico City
What do people do in the most difficult
situations of their lives?
Something surprising in the making of the documentary was the ease with which the people interviewed agreed to share their testimonies and the reasons that led them to make devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus a central part of their lives.
Young people struggling to overcome street situations mingle with traders of religious images who work mainly out of devotion, in the midst of endless errands and pilgrimages that want to show their gratitude for the favor received. And so, among thousands, a documentary mosaic is interwoven that provides a glimpse of the most subjective needs of support, protection, of feeling that there is some hope in the face of the deepest adversity; far beyond any particular belief.
The images of devotion are of great intensity, and surpass the words that are not enough to express the faith in a saint whose popularity has grown exponentially throughout the world, historians say that since the well-known events of 1968.

About the Spiritual Needs
Miguel Méndez Díaz
This documentary is an exploration of the inner needs, those of the spirit, that people experience when they go through the most difficult moments of their lives - fighting against the tragic - and tells us, from the inside, the transit of that experience that navigates from pain to gratitude.
In “Las necesidades espirituales” several stories come together: in one of them, a family of artisans lives their work as devotion to a saint; in another, a group of young people struggle to escape from life on the streets and overcome their drug addiction. The stories that remain in the middle are those of gratitude for the favors received, the one that the devotees practice every twenty-eighth day, in the same space, in the same collective act, the monthly ritual - that sometimes extends for years - the ritual of giving gifts to strangers (the famous mandas) to thank for the heavenly help they claim to have received.
Finally, the common history is that of the pilgrimage, of the long and difficult journey, of the sacrifice to deserve the help needed when one's own strength is not enough.
As if by a whim of fate, these stories do not always come to a close, for many they remain an open wound, and for others they become life itself.
